Emerging Computer Technologies - Technology 1

Elective Course - Available for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade
Summer only and taught in a Hybrid environment

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge of computer-based emergent technologies and telecommunications, and related ethics, issues, and trends. This course will also provide students with an understanding of the various kinds of computer hardware and their uses and to provide instruction in basic computer architecture, interfacing, and diagnostic, repair, and maintenance techniques. In order to reinforce the knowledge learned through this course students will be given the role of technical support agents, known as the iTech Squad, for the school and assist faculty, staff, and the student body with entry level technical support issues throughout the year. Students who successfully complete this course move on to Technology 2.  


*An interview is required in order to take Technology 1 prior to official enrollment to assess student’s technology abilities, academic and disciplinary record are also considered. Not all students who apply will be approved.*


Information Design - Technology 2

Elective Course - Available for 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade

This course is designed to develop basic entry-level skills required for digital publishing .  The content includes computer skills; digital publishing concepts and operations; layout, design, measurement activities; and digital imaging as well as communication, collaboration & decision-making activities; critical thinking; and problem solving.  Students will also explore mobile apps and their conceptualization. Students will actively manage the mobile apps of the school and will work towards creating a concept for a mobile app of their own design. The role iTech Agent as describe in Year I will continue through Year II. Students who successfully complete this course move on to Technology 3.

Interactive Design - Technology 3

Elective Course - Available for 11th, and 12th Grade

This course continues the development of skills learned in Digital Design I. The content includes computer skills; digital publishing operations; layout, design, and measurement activities, and digital imaging as well as communication, collaboration & decision-making activities; critical thinking; and problem solving. A focus will be placed on the use of computers and related technology to make learning and instruction more effective and efficient. It encourages students to blend critical thinking skills and technology to improve their educational environment. Students will investigate new areas of technological development that will make an impact upon the future of education. This course will also allow students to build their own learning modules and/or mobile apps to enhance the learning experience for the school community. The role of iTech Agent as described in Year I will continue through Year III.
